2023 spring reminders
1. BOARD SELF NOMINATIONS
PDP continues to accept self nominations from faculty for the positions of East and West Vice Presidents on our Executive Board (deadline April 15, 2023). Please consider applying or encouraging a colleague to apply. Because chapter installations are now conducted via Zoom, PDP also welcomes applications from full-time faculty who many not reside in the states that form our East or West regions. PDP can't operate without the help of our valued Board members, so please consider applying. Complete details can be found on our website:
2. SPRING DEADLINE Kindly remember that the annual deadline to order memberships (certificates, pins & cords) for any spring induction ceremony is April 20. Because of slower US mail delivery times, we strongly encourage that moderators order memberships at least 3 weeks ahead of time. Deadline Reminders for Moderators: 3. ACHS GRADEPOINT REQUIREMENT, 2023 UPDATE The Standards Committee of the Association of College Honor Societies (ACHS), of which PDP has been a member since 1967, held an open forum earlier this year with representatives from many ACHS member societies. The commmittee and ASHS have since updated minimum standards required of societies to maintain membership in ACHS. As such, PDP has updated our eligibility requirements for undergraduate REGULAR membership. In order to be considered for Regular membership in PDP, candidates must:
be at least 18 years old
have completed at least one course of upper-division French (i.e. beyond the intermediate-level series of courses)
have a 3.0 GPA in French, 3.3 GPA overall AND rank in the top 35% of their class; If a school does not use class rank, ACHS requires a minimum 3.3 overall GPA
have sophomore standing (i.e. students have attended at least one year of college and be in at least their second year of university study)
be a degree seeking student at the host institution
Students who do not yet meet the above requirements for Regular membership may always be considered for Honorary membership. If Sophomores and Juniors don't yet meet the requirements for Regular membership, however, we advise holding off on granting Honorary membership until students' senior year, and instead encouraging those students to make attempts to increase their GPA so that they can be considered for Regular membership before graduation. 4. OLD CHAPTER ROSTERS The formatting of the chapter rosters from the old PDP database isn't compatible with our current WIX platform; we're still looking into how we might be able to upload all of that information (50,000 names) into the new database. In the meantime, if you desire to have an Excel copy of your old roster, please contact the society and we'll gladly send an Excel copy to you: info@pideltaphi.org 5. STUDENTS INDUCTED DURING COVID / DATABASE CRASH If you inducted students into your chapter during our database crash (2020-2021), please remember to enter their names and induction dates into our new database; othwise, the national office has no record of your student inductees. 6. NEWS & PHOTOS Finally, kindly remember to send any chapter news and photos (including the names of individuals photographed), and any original photographs of the French-speaking world to be used in future PDP publications (with the name of the photographer) to: news@pideltaphi.org
