BYLAWS: PI DELTA PHI, THE NATIONAL FRENCH HONOR SOCIETY

 

SECTION 1. TERMS OF OFFICE

 

President

The President's term is five years and may be renewed. Two years prior to the close of the Presidentʼs term of office, the Executive Board shall review the President's work and vote whether or not to reappoint the President to another term. If reappointment is either declined or not extended, a President-Designate shall be selected.

 

President-Designate

The President-Designate shall be a member of the Executive Board.

 

Immediate Past President

The Executive Board may choose to ask the Immediate Past President to serve as a member of the Executive Board for one year following the close of the term served as the President.

 

Vice Presidents

The Vice Presidential terms are five years and may be renewed. Terms are staggered to ensure effective continuity. Regional Vice Presidents shall be elected by ballot of the chapters in that region when vacancies occur. Each chapter shall have one vote. Write-in candidates must have the consent of the nominee. Two years prior to the close of a Vice Presidentʼs term of office, the Executive Board shall review the Vice President's work and vote whether or not to appoint the Vice President to another term. If reappointment is either declined or not extended, the Executive Director shall organize an election for a new Vice President whose term shall begin following the close of term of the current officer.

 

Executive Director

The term of the Executive Director is five years and may be renewed. Two years prior the close of the Executive Director's term of office, the President shall review the Executive Director's work and seek advice from the Board concerning reappointment. The President shall decide whether to reappoint the Executive Director to another term. If reappointment is either declined or not extended, the President shall appoint a new Executive Director whose term shall begin at the close of term of the current Director.

 

Newsletter Editor

The term of the Newsletter Editor is five years and may be renewed. Two years prior the close of the Newsletter Editor's term of office, the President shall review the Newsletter Editor's work and seek advice from the Board concerning reappointment. The President shall decide whether to reappoint the Newsletter Editor to another term. If reappointment is either declined or not extended, the President shall appoint a new Newsletter Editor whose term shall begin at the close of term of the current Editor.

 

Vacancies in offices shall be filled by the Executive Board.

 

SECTION 2. HONORARIUM

 

The Executive Director will receive an honorarium as determined by the Executive Board.

 

SECTION 3. MEETING OF THE BOARD

 

The National President shall call meetings of the Board when necessary. At least one should be held annually.

 

SECTION 4. OBLIGATIONS OF THE CHAPTERS

 

Each chapter should hold at least one meeting each year, including an annual initiation, if appropriate. Election of any chapter officers should be held each year.  An annual report should be sent at the end of the spring term to the Executive Director. The report should have the names and home addresses of the new initiates, the names of any officers, a brief description of any chapter activities, and, if applicable, the name of the new Moderator.

 

SECTION 5. DUES AND FINANCIAL OBLIGATIONS

 

The current fee for the establishment of a new chapter is $150.00. The fee includes the official banner of the Society and the chapter charter.

 

National dues are paid once at the time of initiation into the Society and entitle the new member to lifetime membership. Chapter dues may be determined by the local chapters.

 

SECTION 6. INITIATION CEREMONY

 

The program shall be conducted according to the official procedures of the initiation ceremony. It may be modified, but must reflect the ideals and objectives of the

Society.
