Call for Self Nominations: North VP, East VP

Pi Delta Phi is accepting self-nominations for the positions of North Vice President and East Vice President on the Society's Executive Board.

Eligibility: Ph.D. tenured or tenure-track faculty member who teaches French full time and who is a member of Pi Delta Phi. If the faculty member teaches at an institution that does not yet sponsor a chapter of Pi Delta Phi (or at which the chapter has become inactive), it is expected that the faculty member will work to establish a chapter (or reactivate the chapter) during the first year of service.

Term: The five-year term runs September 1, 2017-May 31 2022 and is renewable.

Responsibilities: Vice Presidents attend the annual meeting of the Executive Board, which is typically held during one of the regional MLA conferences in October or November. Recent meetings took place at: SCMLA, SAMLA, M/MLA and PAMLA. The main work of vice presidents is to install new chapters (typically 1-2 per year). Pi Delta Phi covers all transportation and in-route meals for the installing officer, while the host school is expected to cover any hotel and meals while the officer is on campus. The host school is also asked to accommodate the teaching schedule of the installing officer. Chapter installations can be schedule to accommodate the teaching schedule of the VP. Vice Presidents are also expected to help expand the Society by contacting annually, as their schedules permit, a few schools in their region that do not have chapters of Pi Delta Phi.

States in the North region are: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.

States in the East region are: Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, Rhode Island, Vermont.

Benefits: For the annual meeting of the Executive Board, Pi Delta Phi covers transportation costs, two nights of lodging, a Board meeting luncheon or dinner, and a two-day per diem. Vice Presidents may also elect to give a paper or chair a session during the conference and thus avoid using their home institution's limited faculty conference funds.

To Apply: Interested applicants should send electronically (preferred) or by U.S. mail a brief letter of interest (in English) and a copy of their CV (short form if the CV is particularly long) to the President:

Application Deadline: March 1, 2017

Questions: Please contact the National President, Dr. Scott Fish (info@pideltaphi.org).
