Executive Board Opening

Pi Delta Phi is accepting self-nominations for the position of West Vice President on the Society's Executive Board.

Eligibility: Ph.D. tenured or tenure-track faculty member who is teaching French full time at a college or university in our West region and who is a member of Pi Delta Phi. It is expected that if the faculty member teaches at an institution that does not yet sponsor a chapter of Pi Delta Phi (or at which the chapter has become inactive), that the faculty member will work to establish a chapter (or work to reactivate the inactive chapter).

Term: The five-year term runs September 1, 2016-May 31 2021 and is renewable.

Responsibilities: The West Vice President attends the annual meeting of the Executive Board, which is typically held during the annual ACTFL or regional MLA conferences in October or November. The main work of vice presidents is to install new chapters (typically 1-2 per year). Pi Delta Phi covers all transportation and in-route meal costs for the installing officer, while the host school is expected to cover any hotel and meals while the officer is on campus. The host school is also asked to accommodate the teaching schedule of the installing officer. States in the West region are: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming. Vice Presidents are also expected to help to expand the Society by contacting annually, as their schedules permit, a few schools in their region that do not have chapters of Pi Delta Phi.

Benefits: For the annual meeting of the Executive Board, Pi Delta Phi covers transportation costs, two nights of lodging, a Board meeting luncheon, and a two-day per diem. Vice Presidents may also elect to give a paper during the conference and thus avoid using limited faculty conference funds.

To Apply: Interested applicants should send electronically a brief letter of interest (in English or French) and a copy of their CV to the Executive Director.

Application Deadline: October 1, 2016

Questions: Please contact the National President, Dr. Scott Fish, info@pideltaphi.org
