Secretary-Treasurer Emerita, 1944-1951

Gisèle A. (Liff) Hart, M.A., Alpha

Angele Anna Gisèle Liff completed a B.A. (1941) and M.A. (1943) in French at the University of California, Berkeley where she assumed the position of Secretary-Treasurer in 1944. Former National President Dr. Max Oppenheimer Jr. credited Ms. Liff with almost single-handedly holding the Society together during the challenging World War II and immediate post war years. Following her service to Pi Delta Phi, Ms Hart worked as a French teacher with the West Contra Costa, California, Unified School District for forty years. She was a member of the Foreign Language Association of California (FLANC) and the California Language Teachers Association (CLTA). An annual award in her name is given by FLANC to encourage beginning teachers to devote themselves to the language teaching field. Ms. Hart passed away in 2006.
